A Little Bite Out of Me…

One thing I have learned through experience is that to have skill at cooking one of the things you must know how to do is make something out of nothing. I’ve spent too many years living off of instant macaroni, dumping warmed up pasta sauce from the jar on noodles and learning the numbers of my favourite restaurants and take out. This was probably due to the fact that up until the age of twenty I refused to cook meat less I kill someone or myself through E. coli. I only started when I happened to find a roommate that knew how to cook and supervised me. Suffice to say I had a limited knowledge of anything related to cooking. I did however have a love for food.

The last two years have been a trial and error. I went from freezer food, trying to afford groceries that were more complex than dumping ranch dressing over carrots and boiling water for kimchi to discovering that I didn’t need much to make something that I would gladly serve to guests. This is coming from a 22 year old who works at a supermarket and lives in a two bedroom apartment with more bills than I know what to do with. I owe most of this inspiration to the food network which kept me company while I was stuck in bed and more so to my boyfriend who has a huge passion for food like me and was gifted with a huge amount of skill in preparing it.

So here is my goal; to inspire myself and others to make a little bit of effort to drop into your local grocery store skip the instant meal section and McDonald’s and look around for something yummy or even walk into your pantry and get inspired by something as simple as a clove of garlic.

You don’t need to be rich or a stay at home mom to eat something absolutely delectable. If I, the clumsy connoisseur can do it, so can you.
